Keyboard Backlight Issues Q&A
Q1: Most of my keys aren’t lighting up. What should I do?
It may happen if you have adjusted the lighting effects before. Hold FN + Space for 3–5 seconds to reset your keyboard, then you can reapply your preferred lighting mode with shortcut keys. You can check the user manual for valid shortcuts.
If resetting does not help, try updating the keyboard firmware.
Q2: Just one key has no backlight. Is this fixable?
Start by holding FN + Space for 3–5 seconds to reset the keyboard. If that doesn’t help, flash the latest firmware to rule out any firmware bugs.
If the backlight still won’t turn on after these checks, the RGB light for this key has failed. Replacing the onboard PCB light requires soldering expertise, so this repair is not suitable for home DIY.
Q3: I can’t get the keyboard backlight to switch off.
Try the backlight shortcut first, FN + ESC works to turn it off for most models. Different models may use different methods, please refer to the user manual for details.
Q4: The backlight color won’t change at all when I adjust it.
Hold FN + Space for 3–5 seconds to reset your keyboard; reset shortcuts vary by model, check the user manual for yours.
Once reset, follow the lighting guide in the manual to switch backlight colours again. If the issue persists, flash the firmware matching your keyboard’s PID to resolve known bugs and retry.
Q5: My keyboard backlight flickers randomly. What’s wrong?
- Unstable power input may trigger flickering, plug the keyboard directly into your motherboard USB port instead of a USB hub first.
- Conflicting custom light settings can also cause abnormal behaviour, hold FN + Space for 3–5 seconds to reset your keyboard; reset shortcuts vary by model, check the user manual for yours.
- If it is caused by firmware bugs, flash the firmware matching your keyboard’s PID to resolve known issues.
If flickering persists after these steps, the PCB lighting circuit may be damaged.
Q6: How do I turn off the side lights on my keyboard?
Edge lighting is controlled by dedicated shortcut combinations.
For models like the R87 Pro, press FN + Back to toggle the edge lighting on and off. Shortcuts differ across other variants, look up the correct key combination in your product user manual.
